                                                     KUDOS HOUSE

                                          (FORMERLY 3 EDNAM ROAD)

Kudos House, corner of Priory Road and Ednam Road, Dudley.

Christopher Messiter Hatton and Jill Hatton have very kindly been in touch with me regarding Kudos House. They are the great grandchildren of Dr Messiter, whose son, Dr and Surgeon Cyril C Messiter and his wife lived at 3 Ednam Road (Kudos House) until the late 1940's or early 50's.

The building was built by the Messiter family as a Victorian GP's House in 1864. This is therefore not an Edwardian, but a Victorian property. The surgery entrance was in Priory Road, the family entrance being in Ednam Road. (If you view the building from the Ednam Road side, you’ll notice that the cast iron gate that was once used to access the rear gardens or side of the property, has been saved, and is currently attached to the side of the building (seen here, on the left of the picture - information courtesy of David Fisher who took the above photograph).

To think that anyone considered demolishing this beautiful building is beyond belief - thank goodness common sense prevailed. Here is the link to the Halesowen News report:

What is very interesting is that the father of Ian Messiter who was the Inventor of 'Just a Minute' was brought up in the house with his sister, the mother of Christopher and Jill. Here is a Wikipedia link to 'Just a Minute'...

With sincere thanks to Christopher and Jill for providing this wonderful information.
