                                       BENT STREET SCHOOL, BRIERLEY HILL

The following photographs show the pupils and staff of Bent Street School, Brierley Hill in 1935, 1938 and 1940.

If you recognise a relative, I would love to hear from you. Please send an email to info@bcgfh.co.uk

With sincere thanks to Graham Smith for providing the following information:

Reg Smith (Graham's father) appears on the far right of the back row. He taught handicraft for some years at Bent Street School before World War Two and rejoined the staff in the 1960's. Jack Brown is seated immediately in front of Reg Smith - he was also a handicraft teacher who had lost his leg above the knee in World War One. Reg Smith, who was a newly qualified teacher had also lost his right leg (below the knee), in a motorcycling accident. It is possible that because of his own experience, Jack Brown took Reg Smith 'under his wing'. He later became Graham's godfather. (Jack Brown also appears in the 1940 photograph below) .

The Bent Street Boys' cricket team, with their names below.

Jack Brown appears on the far left of the front row.
