                                             CHRISTCHURCH, THE LYE

Photographs and information courtesy of  Raymond Griffiths.

Raymond Griffiths has researched the 49 names of the men from Lye and Wollescote, Stourbridge, who are listed on the beautiful stained glass window shown below. The window is in the Memorial Chapel of Christchurch, The Lye and records are held for all men but one who is proving to be very elusive.

The name D HART is listed but to date, no information can be found about this person. However, in the Church magazine of June 1950, the list of voluntary contributions for the purchase of the window shows a D HART making a contribution. Additionally, in the course of his project, Mr Griffiths has discovered a further 9 men of the district who lost their lives and are not on the window. Of these 9 men, 5 are buried in  Lye & Wollescote Cemetery. A Memorial Book was presented to the Church and now includes the records of all 58 men.

Does anyone know of the HART families of Lye who lost a loved one during WW2? Do you have any information that may solve this puzzle?
