FRIENDS OF DUDLEY ARCHIVES & LOCAL HISTORY SERVICE

Please scroll to bottom of page for the latest information and flyers.

We are members of this Society and would like to encourage everyone to support the 'Friends'. The FDALHS was formed in 2001 and exists to raise money to purchase items which will be of use to the Dudley Archives Service and which are not provided by the Borough. They also transcribe parish, census and other records. Please see the FDALHS site at http://www.communigate.co.uk/bc/fdalhs/  for more information and transcriptions that are available to purchase. (Please note that you do not need to be a member of FDALHS to become a volunteer).

The following information has been extracted from the leaflet provided by Friends of Dudley Archives & Local History Service.

                                                  The objects of the Society

The Society was formed in 2001, with the co-operation of Dudley Archives and Local History Service. Its aims and objects include:

To support the work of the Archives and Local History Service.

To raise the profile of archives locally and encourage the use of them.

To promote interest in archives and promote their preservation and deposit with the Archives & Local History Service or other appropriate repository.

To encourage the development and improvement of the Archives & Local History Service.

To raise funds for these purposes and to make special purchases for the benefit of Dudley Archives & Local History Service.

To provide a forum for users of the Archives and Local History Service to communicate with each other and with the service.

To organise a series of talks and lectures on topics which will be of interest to the members, and hold other social events.

A copy of the full Constitution of the Friends of Dudley Archives & Local History Service is available on request from the Honorary Secretary.

                                                        What's in it for you?

As a member you will receive a Membership Card and a quarterly newsletter, which will contain information about the activities of the Society including forthcoming events.

You will have the opportunity to attend monthly meetings throughout the year. Most will consist of talks by guest speakers on various local history topics. There will probably be an outing of some kind.

You will have the opportunity, if you so wish, to assist the Dudley Archives & Local History Service by undertaking voluntary tasks e.g. indexing and transcribing plus any other tasks suggested by the archivist or archive staff.

Application forms for membership may be obtained from Dudley Archives & Local History Service, Mount Pleasant Street, Coseley, West Midlands WV14 9JR

Our thanks to Jean Langdell and volunteers for all their hard work in the transcriptions completed to date.
