                                     ST JOHN'S CHURCH PRESERVATION GROUP

Having been founder members of SJCPG for over 18 months now, and having ancestors who were married at St John's Church, we want to draw to everyones attention the urgent need to support this cause. We have already lost so much of our magnificent architecture that we cannot let yet another wonderful building be bulldozed to the ground.

St John's Church was closed by the Church of England in 2002 because a report stated that the building was unsafe. In 2007, the St John's Church Preservation Group was founded and everyone has worked tirelessly to get the Church open again. However, although it has been shown that the church is repairable, the estimated costs are £941,000. The good news is that the Church has been Grade II listed but this does not guarantee the future of the Church. Please go to the following website for more information about the campaign to save the Church: www.savestjohnschurch.zoomshare.com

If one or more of your ancestors are buried at this Church and you require a photograph of the grave or Monumental Inscription, please contact us. The St John's Church Preservation Group are also interested in hearing from anyone who is able to provide them with information about the lives of their relations or friends who may be buried there. Please follow this link to see some of the photographs we have taken of the graves in the Churchyard which has been cleared by the wonderful efforts and hard work of so many: http://www.blackcountrychurchyards.com/73901.html

With special thanks also to Jean Langdell  for the information she gave us in respect of the headstone of Harriet Dando, her husband Robert and his second wife Sarah. Also for the detailed information supplied in respect of Dando Road.

It is our intention to keep everyone updated with events etc being held to raise funds so please see our page 'SJCPG - Appeals & Events' or visit the website of SJCPG.
