The above photograph shows Edward Emanuel Edge and his wife Sarah Ellen Gallagher shortly after their marriage in Canada in the early 1920's. Edward had travelled to Canada in 1919 having been born in Dudley.
The following photographs were taken in Canada. Edward Emanuel Edge worked for McIntyre Mines in Ontario. He was an electrical engineer and spent time living in the cabins which were spread out in the vicinity. He was working on the power lines in the 1950's, when there was a snowstorm and he was unable to reach safety. Tragically, he was found dead sometime later. (The fifth photograph down provides a good insight into the freezing conditions the men endured).
If anyone has any information about this tragedy, or any general information about the McIntyre Mines in the period around 1953 to 1955, it would be lovely to hear from you. Please send an email to info@bcgfh.co.uk
